Diamondbacks pitcher Merrill Kelly | Phoenix portrait photographer

This recent assignment for Phoenix Magazine was a little different then my usual. They asked me to photograph Arizona Diamondbacks’ pitcher Merrill Kelly for a profile in the magazine. If you’ve ever photographed athletes, especially at the pro level, you know you’re not going to get much time with your subject, and even getting a time confirmed can often be tricky. So on the day of the shoot I was ready to go most of the morning, and headed out as soon as they confirmed a shooting window of time. We were there plenty early, so I took my time setting up and had the fabulous art director, Angelina Aragon, be my test subject. All went well, and he was so friendly and kind.
